YARD UTILITY WORKER

JOB SUMMARY

The Yard Utility Worker plays a vital role in ensuring a safe, organized, and efficient scrap metal yard. The position is responsible for various tasks related to maintaining an organized materials inventory as well as the maintenance of equipment, machinery, and the yard itself.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Yard Maintenance: Keep the yard clean, organized, and free of debris. Understand how the yard should be organized and take the necessary steps to maintain that organization. Rake, weed, prune, and dispose of debris. Sweep the yard daily; check bales and filters; keep drains clean. Repair yard property & structures as needed.
  • Equipment Operation and Care: Operate and proactively maintain various equipment including mowers, line trimmers, chainsaws, forklifts, and skid steers. Inspect, clean, repair, grease, and fuel these machines and equipment daily including blowing out skid steer air filters.
  • Material Handling: Manage the flow of materials by unloading, receiving, and taking inventory of deliveries and returns. Conduct weekly inventory of yard stock items to ensure correct inventory levels are maintained. Notify correct personnel to reorder stock items when appropriate.
  • Safety and Traffic Control: Adhere to safety protocols. Prepare work areas and remove hazards. Assist with directing traffic.
  • Customer Interaction: Assist customers and contractors as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • This is an active, hands-on position that requires physical stamina and the ability to lift and move heavy objects up to 75 lbs. It involves sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, bending, twisting, reaching and pulling/pushing for extended periods of time.
  • Incumbents must be self-motivated, self-directed, and capable of working with minimal supervision. They should also be able to work as part of a team and communicate clearly and effectively with coworkers.
  • Must have experience with the proper use of hand and power tools as well as equipment operation and control.
  • Must be able to work safely and follow company policies. Must become familiar with relevant environmental guidelines and consistently operate within those guidelines.
  • Must learn appropriate designation of materials in the yard and exercise appropriate attention to detail.
  • Must be organized and adaptable.
  • Must be willing and able to work in various weather conditions, across variable shifts, andbeyond 10 hours/day as needed.
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license is required.
  • Previous experience in an industrial environment is helpful but not required.
  • Basic mechanical skills are preferred.
  • A high school diploma or GED is preferred.

Job Types: Full-time, Temp-to-hire

Pay: From $19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
